Garrett Indiana was founded in 1875 and was named for John W. Garrett, then President on the Baltimore and Ohio railroad. The population is approximately 6,300 people and boasts a historic railroad museum, Garrett Museum of Art and several notable buildings including historic Sacred Heart Hospital, which was converted to apartments in 2003. Known throughout DeKalb County as, “a railroad community”, Garrett offers the community a beautiful recreation center on East Houston Street and is proud to welcome visitors to their revitalized downtown area.
